Khumbula respects your privacy and the privacy of the loved ones you tell us about. This page explains what information we collect and how we use it. We follow the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA).
What we collect
- Contact form: your name, email, phone number and message.
- Memorial form: your contact details, how you are related to the person who passed away, and their details, life story and photos.
- Messages on memorial pages: your name, email and message. We never show your email.
- Website visits: general numbers, like which pages people visit (only if this is turned on), and small cookies that remember a candle you lit or your name for messages.
How we use it
We only use your information to reply to you, to make and look after memorial pages and plaques, to check messages and to improve our website. We never sell or rent your information.
Memorial pages
We only put a page online after the family has checked it and said yes. Families can choose to keep a page private. A private page does not show in our memorials list or on Google, and only people with the QR code or link can open it. You can ask us to change or remove a page at any time.
Keeping it safe
Your information is kept safely with our website host. Only Khumbula staff can see it. We only keep enquiry details for as long as we need them, or as long as the law says.
Your rights
You can ask to see, fix or delete your information, or ask us to stop using it. Contact us at jocelyn25miller@yahoo.com or 082 560 6380. You can also complain to the Information Regulator (South Africa).
