In loving memory of Eleanor Rose Thandiwe
14 March 1942 - 2 August 2024
A teacher, a gardener and the heart of every Sunday lunch.
“Her hands always busy, her heart always full.”

Their story
Eleanor was born in the green hills of KwaZulu-Natal. She was the oldest of six children. From a young age, everyone came to her for a warm plate of food, a listening ear or good advice.
She was a teacher for more than thirty years. Her learners remember her as strict but kind, and for her beautiful handwriting on the chalkboard. Many of them became teachers too.
Eleanor married Themba in 1965. They raised four children and had eleven grandchildren. Sunday lunch at her table was a family tradition. She loved her garden, full of aloes, marigolds and vegetables that she shared with the whole street.
She sang in the church choir for over forty years and hummed hymns while she worked. Her faith, her laughter and her love still guide everyone who knew her.
This is an example page. It shows what a Khumbula memorial looks like.
